Ms. Nur Adilah
Educational Psychologist
“Being able to empower others is empowering to me.”
Who is Adilah?
“Hi! My name is Adilah and I am an educational psychologist from CPH deployed to Fei Yue’s Early Intervention programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC). I’ve been working in CPH for around one and a half years and the people here are quite friendly! I don’t think I’m an interesting person (laughs) but my mum started having some pet snail fish during the COVID-19 lockdown. At first I was against it because I was afraid that they would be neglected as we’re all quite busy, but I’m actually having a pleasant time taking care of them; we actually have more than 20 fishes right now because some of our older ones laid eggs haha.”
A jovial individual always brimming with enthusiasm and warmth, Adilah is an educational psychologist in CPH who lights up the office with her presence. A ray of sunshine within the community, Adilah works with children with disabilities or at risk of developing disabilities; analysing and utilising specific early interventions methods for every child, developing and nurturing Singapore’s next generation.
Adilah in CPH
Adilah is currently deployed to Fei Yue’s Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC), where social, educational and rehabilitative services are offered for children who have developed or are at risk of developing disabilities. She spends 4 days a week at the EIPIC centre and returns to the office on Fridays, a day CPH employees affectionately calls: ‘Returning home’.
Being deployed in a preschool for children with special needs, Adilah’s work differs from day to day, and adopts a dynamic nature. A typical day in Fei Yue for Adilah would be having classroom observations, administrative work such as typing up reports and lastly, discussions with the pre-school teachers. Apart from her typical duties, Adilah expresses that she is able to implement innovative interventions that cater to each child’s needs; “I’m really blessed that the teachers and my supervisor in Fei Yue are really open to ideas, they are supportive of the plans and interventions I would like to implement.”
“What motivates me in my role is seeing the children’s progress and their parent’s happiness.”
CPH for Adilah
Adilah first stumbled upon CPH while completing her Master’s degree in university as her course mates were sharing about CPH, a recently established organisation at the time, on their social media. Having been intrigued by CPH’s culture and unique take on learning in the workplace, Adilah applied for a position shortly after her graduation. “I liked the concept of having colleagues of different backgrounds and disciplines in CPH, along with sharing sessions such as Think Tank where we get to learn from each other. We are also offered a chance for rotation for the social service agencies we work with, so we get to learn from different places.”
Despite working at CPH right after graduation, Adilah shares that CPH is one of a kind.
“A really memorable experience I’ve had with CPH was during the start of the 1st lockdown. All of us [the employees of CPH] received care packs sent to our houses. The care pack had snacks, along with a handwritten card from our supervisors. It was really sweet.”
